We invite you to participate in a gala benefit concert for the Love Taiwan Society at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, 14 November 2009 at the First Church of the Nazarene (3700 E. Sierra Madre Boulevard, Pasadena 91107). This concert will honor the wonderful Taiwanese people for their outstanding contributions to our communities and to celebrate their heritage and culture.
Highlighted will be works by award-winning Taiwanese composer Dr. Tyzen Hsiao, featuring the Piano Concerto in c minor, Op. 53, performed by international concert artists Jessie Chang, Deborah H. How, and Yin Yin Huang. Other artists include acclaimed choir conductor Samuel Lin (Los Angeles Chinese Chorale, Chinese Christian Chorale of Los Angeles, San Gabriel Valley Children’s Chorus); Christine Cheng and her sign-language dance group, White Heron; and Lynn Wen conducting the Formosa Chamber Orchestra.
Proceeds from this benefit concert will go toward programs at the Tainan (Taiwan) YMCA for children with developmental disabilities, as well as aid for victims of the recent catastrophic typhoons in south-central Taiwan. Businesses, organizations, and foundations may also set up an advertising table or booth in the lobby of the First Church of the Nazarene on the evening of the concert for $500.
