In 2006, Wen-Pin Hope Lee won the 17th Golden Melody Award for “The Best Composer for Traditional and Artistic Music.” The recording of his theatre dance of five acts, Hsiahai City God through Water of Mengjia, won him a nomination for “The Best Album Producer for Traditional and Artistic Music” for the 18th Golden Melody Award in 2007.

Lee’s first experience with music came from his private piano teacher Chiu-chin Lai (賴秋鏡). At the age of 17, Lee started classes on music theory and composition with Prof. Chin-yow Lin (林進祐) and subsequently finished his BA in the Department of Music at National Taiwan Normal University, where he studied with Prof. Shing-kwei Tzeng (曾興魁), Prof. Mao-shuen Chen (陳茂萱), and Prof. Shu-shi Chen (陳樹熙). Lee continued his studies of composition and music theory at Boston University withLukas Foss (1922- ) the American pioneer of improvised music, Theodore Antoniou (1935- ) the father of Greek modern music, and Marjorie Merryman (1951- ), the then chairperson of the doctorate program of composition at Boston University. Lee received his doctorate of musical arts (D.M.A.) in January, 1999.

Lee now teaches at his alma mater, National Taiwan University, as an associate professor and as a lecturer both at National Taichung University and at the Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University. Lee’s specialty includes, but is not limited to, composition, digital creative arts, computer music, symphonies, and dance drama.

Lee’s works consist of a variety of solo music, chamber music, symphonies, and theatre dance. In recent years, Lee has been active in cross-disciplinary art, combining interactive images with all kinds of theatrical productions of dances, drama, and musicals. Since 2004, Lee pivoted his work around the theme of Taiwan Series and the latest representative works include the following:

In recent years, Wen-Pin Hope Lee has actively participated in digital arts, the interest in which resulted in works such as:

“Association of the Raindrop, Transformation and Interaction,” depicts the ecological environment in Taiwan; “Dimensions” visualizes religious rites with the means of digital virtual music theater; “The Ghost Comes,” presents the musical theater performance with the means of digital virtual images; “The Legend of the Fiber” of Taiwanese Legend Series, a musical theater that integrated literature, Taiwanese folk legend, drama, dance, and interactive images; and“Feint-and –Parry Misdirect” of the Taiwanese Nursery Rhyme Series, combines children’s literature, computer music, and interactive images. Presented as image-interactive virtual musical theater, it is written for voices, prepared piano with amplified effect, and percussion quartet.

李和莆(文彬)

 

  於2006年榮獲新聞局舉辦第十七屆【金曲獎】-傳統暨藝術音樂作品類-最佳作曲人獎』殊榮,2007年再度以「水鬼城隍爺-艋舺過水霞海城隍-數位音樂劇場-五幕舞劇(2006)」入圍第十八屆【金曲獎】-傳統暨藝術音樂作品類-最佳專輯製作人獎』殊榮。自幼學習鋼琴,由賴秋鏡老師啟蒙;十七歲時由林進祐教授啟蒙理論與作曲課程。隨後進入國立台灣師範大學音樂系,先後隨曾興魁、陳茂萱及陳樹熙等教授學習。1993年負笈美國麻州波士頓大學(Boston University)繼續攻讀作曲,隨美國即興音樂創作前鋒,佛斯 Lukas Foss 1922 ― );希臘現代音樂之父,安東尼奧(Theodore Antoniou, 1935 ― )以及波士頓大學音樂系作曲組主任,瑪利曼(Majorie Merryman, 1951 ― )等大師學習,於19991月獲得音樂藝術博士學位(DMA)。現為國立台灣師範大學音樂系專任副教授,並兼任於國立台中教育大學音樂系與國立師大附中音樂班。專長領域:作曲、數位創作藝術、電腦音樂與音樂理論。創作涵蓋各類型獨奏(唱)、室內樂、管絃樂與舞劇等等。近年並積極參與數位跨領域藝術創作,主要結合影像互動與劇場創作各類型音樂劇場作品。

2004年開始主要以「台灣系列」為主題創作,最新的重要代表作品有:
