Ling Yan

Ling Yan, cello

Ling Yan beganher cello studies at age six with her father and continued her studies at the Hanjin Conservatory and the Central Conservatory in Beijing. In 1985, she won first prize in the All-Chinese Music Institute Cello Competition. In 1986, she came to the United States and won first prize in the La Jolla Young Artists' Competition. She earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at Boston University, where she was a student of Leslie Parnas.

Over the years, Ling has played solo and chamber recitals in many cities in the United States and China. She has also participated in Brandeis University's Summer Music Festival, the Boulder Bach Festival, and the Colorado Music Festival. Ling served as principal cellist of the Boulder Philharmonic, the Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra, and the Colorado Ballet Orchestra. She has also performed with the Denver Chamber Orchestra, Opus Chamber Orchestra, Long Beach Symphony, and the Pacific Symphony.
